Questions
Including the ones with awkward answers.
No, and it is not a substitute for it. Metastance is a tutor in a method of thinking. It does not diagnose, treat, or handle crisis. If you are dealing with trauma, grief, or thoughts of harming yourself, talk to a professional — and Metastance will say the same rather than carrying on.
No, and we will not imply otherwise. NLP, one of its parents, has generally not held up in research on its specific claims. Some adjacent mechanisms — cognitive reappraisal, framing effects — are well studied and are why the practical core is not empty. Treat it as a set of useful lenses. The longer answer is here.
A general assistant will answer whatever you ask, in whatever way seems helpful. Metastance works one method, in a fixed order: it will not give you advice in its first reply, and it will not skip the questions that make advice worth anything. It also refuses things outside its purpose rather than obliging.
Only once you have an account. Before you sign in, nothing you write is stored on our servers. After you sign in, conversations are saved so you can return to them, and are deleted 365 days after their last message — or immediately, whenever you delete them. Full detail here.
No. Your conversations are sent to Anthropic to generate each reply, and under their commercial API terms that data is not used to train their models. We do not use it for training, profiling or advertising either. Our logs record that a reply happened and what it cost — never what was said.
$5.99 a month or $49.99 a year — the yearly plan works out about 30% less. What Premium includes. The free tier is not a trial with a timer: it runs until a conversation reaches an insight worth going deeper into, which is the first point at which paying buys you anything.
Settings → Data & privacy → Delete account. It removes your conversations and your account permanently. Cancel a subscription separately, wherever you bought it — deleting the account does not cancel it.
In preparation, not yet in the stores — and this site is built for phones in the meantime, with the same account carrying over when the app ships. The honest status is here.
People who want to think more clearly about something specific — a conflict, a decision, a relationship, a reaction they do not understand. Coaches and people in communication or leadership work tend to recognise the method quickly. It assumes you want to develop, not that something is wrong with you.
