METASTANCE

How it works

Four movements, in order. It will not skip to the last one.

1. Acknowledge

It takes the situation seriously before doing anything with it. No advice yet, no reframing yet.

2. Explore

It asks the questions that separate what happened from what you concluded — usually the ones you have not asked yourself.

3. Lift

It names the pattern: what maintains it, and what it seems to protect.

4. Challenge

It offers a different frame and something concrete to try. This is where it stops being a conversation and starts being useful.

What that sounds like

An illustration, not a transcript from a real user.

You — I keep putting off a conversation with my manager about my role. It has been three months.

Metastance — Three months is long enough that the delay has become its own thing. Before we look at why: when you picture yourself starting that conversation, what is the first sentence you imagine them saying back?

You — Probably something like “I didn’t realise you were unhappy”. Said in a disappointed way.

Metastance — So the thing being avoided is not the conversation. It is being seen as ungrateful. That is a different problem, and a more manageable one. What would you have to believe about how they would take it for the conversation to be worth having this week?

Notice what did not happen: no advice in the first reply, no reassurance, and no instruction to think positively. The second question changed what the problem was.

  1. What it was about

    Being seen as ungrateful.

What the delay was protecting against.

turned out to be the frame around

  2. What you brought

I keep putting off a conversation with my manager.

Three months of it, and no obvious reason.

Two questions, no advice, and the problem is a different one. The second is the one you can actually do something about this week — and nobody could have given it to you as advice, because it had to be found.

Free and Premium

The free tier is not a countdown. Metastance works with you until the conversation reaches an insight worth having, and that is where it offers to go further — because that is the first moment when going further is worth anything.

Premium is $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year: the full analysis, the pattern that maintains it, concrete practice, and saved conversations you can return to.

We will not manufacture suspense to sell it. If a conversation has not reached anything real, you will not be asked to pay for more of it.
